Wow! What a wonderful day! You are so lucky to live a reasonable drive away from a nice beach. We spent Catalonia Day in the Collserola National Park with friends—great times! Thank you for the history lesson. I have read here and there about Catalan history, but I really need to sit down one week and just read as much as I can.

There's a documentary on Netflix titled Two Catalonias about the independece movement which gives some perspective. Additionally, the chapter on Catalonia in the book Ghosts of Spain by Giles Tremlett was great; that whole book was a wonderful read.

Hey! It’s a wonderful place filled with hiking and biking trails, forests, hills and lowlands - 8,000 hectares. There are entrances near different train stations from Barcelona to Sant Cugat. If you enter from Sant Cugat then you will be able to visit the village, monastery, shops, restaurants, etc. Message me if you’re going and I’ll give you more specifics!
